Benefits

Public Visibility

Hundreds of people use Exploration Green ("the Green") every day for walking, running, bicycling, and bird watching.  It is located in the heart of Clear Lake, accessible to most people simply by walking or riding several blocks, or maybe a short drive.  It is free and open to the public year-round.

Your partnership will be seen by many, who will not have to drive a distance to get to it or pay to enter.

Regional Resilience

The Houston area is prone to flooding due to tropical cyclones and sometimes just a clash of weather fronts.  After many years, many projects to mitigate these effects are still in the discussion or early planning phases.  The Green protected the Clear Lake Area from Hurricane Harvey, Tropical Storm Imelda, and Hurricane Nicholas, plus many other unnamed heavy rainfall events.

Your partnership will back a leading-edge project with proven results.  The Green has been cited as a benchmark in flood mitigation in both a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) case study and a Texan By Nature (TxN) case study

Sustainability

The Green is a former golf course that has been transformed into a nature preserve. Non-native and sometimes invasive species that had been planted to make the golf course more visually appealing have been removed and replaced with native species. These native species attract birds, amphibians, and other species that had been pushed out in the past.

Employee Pride and Engagement

Studies show that employees feel better about themselves and about their employers when allowed and encouraged to take part in volunteer opportunities in their communities. Employees say that team volunteering boosts workplace enthusiasm more than after-work “happy hours” do. Joining forces with a local nonprofit organization like the Conservancy can build a sense of pride and ownership in the volunteer project, the work performed, and in the resulting positive community impacts.

Creating the Green’s 200-acre park and conservation area has been a major undertaking. Unlike city or county-owned parks, the Conservancy must raise all the funds for the amenities and services offered - native trees and grass, hike and bike trails, educational programs, and other infrastructure like park benches and signage.

Would you like to help? We are always looking for people and organizations to provide financial support for the Green!
