School Field Trip Opportunities

The Green offers school group and field investigations with real-world learning opportunities and relevancy. The Green has been named a Texas Aquatic Science (TAS) Certified Field Site. TAS includes site-based, hands-on, experiential learning with field-based activities in its curriculum.

  • The "Land Use in Our Watershed" lesson examines water flow and its influences on water quality.

  • The "Assessing Stream Health" lesson with invertebrate sampling shows students how to conduct, analyze, and identify macroinvertebrates as bioindicators.

  • The "Field Trip to Wetlands" lesson shows unique aquatic ecosystem characteristics.

  • The "Water Quality" lesson introduces students to water chemistry testing.

  • The "Ecosystem Assessment' lesson examines multiple evaluation criteria using dip-netting and seining.

Our affiliation with Galveston Bay Foundation offers field trip opportunities to nearby saltwater ecosystems.

Donate

Creating the Green’s 200-acre park and conservation area has been a major undertaking. Unlike city or county-owned parks, the Conservancy must raise all the funds for the amenities and services offered - native trees and grass, hike and bike trails, educational programs, and other infrastructure like park benches and signage.

Would you like to help? We are always looking for people and organizations to provide financial support for the Green!
