Commemorative Tree Program
The Exploration Green Conservancy ("the Conservancy") Commemorative Tree Program offers members of the community the opportunity to have a lasting impact. Through this program, a tree is provided by the Conservancy with an inscribed plaque. Exploration Green ("the Green") is already home to hundreds of trees that may be selected for commemoration. Or you may select a tree from the nursery and work with the Conservancy to plant the tree at a specific location within the project.

Trees
Trees are living, growing, renewing, and majestic beings. At the Green, trees provide homes for wildlife, shade, cleaner air, and soil stabilization in our perpetually protected green space. The Exploration Green Commemorative Tree Program allows you to participate in the development of the Green in a very special way. For a specified amount, you may donate a tree to be planted and maintained by the Conservancy.
The Green has hundreds of already planted trees from which you may make a selection. You may designate a commemorative tree for a variety of reasons. A tree may be donated in memory of a loved one, as a gift for a graduating student, to celebrate a marriage or birth, to recognize environmental commitment, to honor a retiree, or for nearly any special occasion.
The Conservancy reviews and approves all tree donations. Our commemorative trees are high quality Live Oak or other tree native or naturalized to Texas. Larger trees will be marked with an engraved plaque, while smaller trees are not marked as part of donation. See below discussion.
Donation amounts are related to the approximate size of the trees; SMALL, MEDIUM, or LARGE.
-
SMALL trees which come in 15-gallon pots with trunks that are approximately 1 to 2 inches in diameter may be selected for a $200 donation. A marker with inscription for small trees can be added for a fee to be determined either initially or at a later date.
-
MEDIUM trees which come in 30-gallon pots with trunks that are approximately 2 to 3 inches in diameter may be selected for a $500 donation.
-
LARGE trees which come in 45-gallon (or larger) pots with trunks that are approximately 4 inches (or greater) in diameter may be selected for donation of $1,000.
The Conservancy will determine the location of the tree near a lake selected by the donor.
Planting will typically occur between October and February, and trees will be irrigated for a year or more to ensure survival.
Special opportunities to donate for specific trees to be planted may occur during planting season.
Plaques and Inscriptions
For larger trees, an inscription plaque will be ordered along with the memorial tree. The plaque may contain the honoree’s name, important dates, or a short statement memorializing or commemorating an individual and his or commitment, leadership or achievement. Many will be honored for their interest and support for the Green, exploration or environmental action. Inscription is subject to approval by the Conservancy. Additional inscriptions, symbols, or extraneous content are not permitted.
Special Considerations
-
The tree order form must be completed and submitted with payment when the tree is ordered
-
Donors are welcome to organize small, informal ceremonies at tree site when plaques are ready
-
The Conservancy will replace any tree that does not survive at least 12 months from the time of planting, if planted between October and February
-
Should a tree not survive or a marker becomes degraded beyond one year, the donating party will be notified through U.S. mail or email, and given the option to replace the tree or marker, at their expense, or to remove the marker. The donor is responsible for informing the Conservancy of hist or her current mailing address
-
Trees may not be decorated, i.e. wind chimes, ornaments, signs, bird houses, ribbons, etc.
Donate
Creating the Green’s 200-acre park and conservation area has been a major undertaking. Unlike city or county-owned parks, the Conservancy must raise all the funds for the amenities and services offered - native trees and grass, hike and bike trails, educational programs, and other infrastructure like park benches and signage.
Would you like to help? We are always looking for people and organizations to provide financial support for the Green!
