Group and Team Volunteering at Exploration Green

Exploration Green can offer group activities for almost any age, group size, and skill set!

The Exploration Green Conservancy (EGC) is thankful to the organizations that have supported EGC’s work through many volunteer activities. These volunteer activities offer team-building opportunities for groups, whether they be employees, congregants/parishioners, Boy and Girl Scouts, or volunteers for other organizations.  These events can also provide marketing and promotional value to our partners and help align corporate responsibility or sustainability objectives.

All Exploration Green group activities are outdoor activities, giving group members the opportunity to interact with and learn about wetlands, trees, and prairies.  Key volunteer activities include:

  • Prairie nursery maintenance

  • Tree nursery maintenance

  • Wetland nursery maintenance

  • Invasive species removal

  • Prairie planting

  • Tree planting

  • Wetland planting

By partnering with EGC through a volunteer day, your organization will not only help complete and maintain native habitat in the heart of Clear Lake but further enhance and differentiate your organization’s brand.

Activities for Almost Any Age Group

Exploration Green recognizes that not all volunteer activities are suitable for every age group.  But Exploration Green can generally accommodate volunteers ages 6 and up. We’ll find something for you to do!

What to expect:

  • Liability and photography waivers required (for all ages)

  • Minors 18 and under require guardian signature

  • Children and youth under 12 require a parent or group leader

How dirty do you want to get?

Exploration Green volunteer activities range from getting a little bit dirty pulling weeds and “up-potting” trees to larger pots in the tree nursery, through heavy lifting and working dirt and mulch to plant trees, to sloshing around the detention ponds in calf-deep water planting wetland plants.

What to expect:

  • Wear shoes and clothing that you won’t mind getting dirty!

  • Work gloves, tools and waders supplied - or bring your own.

Training and Safety

Exploration Green strives for safety in all volunteer activities.  Exploration Green volunteer leads will train your group on how to do activities in the safest way possible.

What to expect:

  • Wear sunscreen, protective clothing, weather appropriate gear.

  • Cooled water is available, but please bring your own bottle!

  • Please alert us of any health concerns, physical limitations or allergies.

COVID-19 Considerations

Exploration Green follows Harris County and City of Houston COVID-19 protocols for outdoor activities.

What to expect:

  • Work is usually in small teams of 2-3 people.

  • Current conditions do not require a COVID waiver.

  • Masks and social distancing are recommended but not required.

  • Conditions may change, and requirements will be altered accordingly.
